2020 Summer Camps
Updated June 5th, 2020
Due to Covid-19, our summer camp program will look quite a bit different this year. After analyzing all elements of the camp experience, communicating with peers in the camp industry, and developing protocols to meet the State of Maine Day Camp Guidelines, we have created a unique camp experience that will provide great, in-depth climbing while managing the current health risks.
To maintain a safe environment, we will be drastically cutting down our numbers of campers and changing the format of the program. Each session will be limited to 10 children per age group, and each group will be broken into two pods of five campers and one instructor. Our camp hours will be shortened to a half-day, morning program from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. The gym will not be open to the public during camp hours. Each session will run for 4 weeks, limited the overall exposure in our building and allowing for a robust climbing curriculum.
If your child is currently enrolled in any of our summer camp programs, you should be receiving an email explaining your options. Please email Salt Pump Kids Director Brittney Robinson at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign-up for our new program, or receive a refund or credit. Because of the limited number of spots available, preference will be given according to the original registration date. If there are spots available after June 12th, we will then open registration to the public.
Unfortunately, due to concerns with transportation and overnight camping, our Inside Out Camps and Outdoor Overnight Camps are cancelled for this summer. If your child is enrolled in one of these programs, we will be providing a full refund.

We will not be offering any discounts at this time.
We’re from out of state, can we come to SP camp this summer?
Due to the current State of Maine guidance, we are not able to book campers from outside of the state. We hope that we’ll be able to climb with you again soon.
When is all camp specific paper-work due?
We are asking that all waivers, medical forms, & COVID questionnaires are completed at least one-week prior to your camper coming on their first day of camp. We will be asking screener questions & taking temperatures at drop-off each day of camp.
How will drop-off & pick-up work this summer?
We ask that you stay in your vehicle for drop-off this summer. We will have a drop-off/pick-up location outside of the gym. We are asking that the only person who gets out of the car is the camper.
Will my camper be required to wear a face mask?
Our gym staff, camp staff, as well as our campers will be required to wear face masks at all times while inside our facility. Weather permitting, a block of outside time will be scheduled into each day for fresh air, outdoor play, and a break from masks.
Will there be an after-care option?
Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer after-care this summer.
What is your bathroom policy during this time?
Only one camper will be allowed in the bathroom at a time and will be asked to clean their hands before entering and after exiting. If your child needs assistance with the restroom, please contact us to talk through options.
Will the gym be open to the public while my camper is at Salt Pump?
The gym will be closed to the public during camp hours.
Can I come watch my camper climb?
We know that a large part of camp is showing off the new skills that your camper has learned at Salt Pump. Unfortunately, during this time we are asking that only your camper comes into the facility.
What is your behavior policy?
As you can imagine, this is a challenging time to manage behavior that may put the rest of the group at risk. We tend to work with a 3-step protocol that includes working with the camper to better understand why we are asking them to follow certain procedures and how it is for their benefit and the benefit of the group. Our next step is to provide a safe space for them to be able to take a moment of reprieve and then chat with one of our camp leaders until they are ready to rejoin the group. We hope that this will be enough for any camper. In the unlikely event that this isn’t enough for them, we will ask parents to come and pick-up the camper and we can try again the next day. If this happens on another day, we will follow the same process, as it is hopefully familiar to the camper. If the camper goes home again on this second occasion, we will likely ask the camper to not return to camp and booking fees will be forfeited.
Still have questions?
"My little climber has been so excited to share her experience with everyone. She loved climbing blindfolded and being able to learn belaying. This camp is packed full of fun, learning and adventure! A definite must on the camp list. My daughter was a little nervous to start a new camp, especially because she didn’t know anyone else taking the week long climbing camp. The atmosphere was relaxed, the activities varies, and she came home happy every day. Her counselor, Kai, was soft spoken and thoughtful, giving my daughter new skills and confidence in something she can continue to pursue. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommended the camp or the facility. Thank You! The staff was very patient and welcoming. My daughter loves to climb now. She’s hooked!"
