Salt Pump Climbing Co.’s mission is to be the leading community resource for climbing, mountain adventure, and active living in Southern Maine. Position: Marketing and Sales Manager – Full Time (Salary)

Position Description: The Marketing and Sales Manager works with the Marketing Director and Salt Pump management team to carry out brand strategy and marketing and sales plans. Day to day focus areas include digital and print marketing, group sales, event planning and community outreach. This is a full time (40 hours per week) position based at our climbing facility location in Scarborough, Maine. Hours may vary from week to week with some flexibility possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage events, including quarterly member events
  • Manage website content
  • Manage email marketing, including quarterly newsletter (Mailchimp)
  • Manage group sales activities including strategy planning, outreach, bookings, day-of event support, and follow up
  • Manage community outreach activities including event sponsorship, product donations and climbing promotion/education for schools and groups
  • Manage public and media relations efforts including press releases, online calendar submissions and coordination of media visits
  • Develop stories for social media (Instagram, Facebook, Google+)
  • Support digital and print advertising campaigns
  • Plan and conduct regular staff training on marketing and sales
  • Provide additional support as needed including front desk, events and programs.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years experience in marketing, business or a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytic skills for planning and evaluation
  • Ability to think creatively, work independently, and manage multiple projects.
  • Digital marketing proficiency (We use WordPress for the website and Mailchimp for email marketing)
  • Event planning and management experience
  • Be friendly, caring, and kind
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Background in climbing and/or outdoor adventure.
  • Sales experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Digital content creation including photography/videography and editing.
  • Graphic design / familiarity with Adobe creative suite.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full time (40 hours per week) position with benefits and salary commensurate with experience.

Position: Indoor Climbing Instructor – Indoor Summer Camps 2018

Position Description: Climbing Instructors work together with Lead Instructors and the Camp Director to provide a caring and supportive environment for their campers. During a day at camp, Instructors will facilitate climbing, crafts, games, and other activities. Instructors will also teach campers technical skills (including belaying, rappelling, and mock-leading) and outdoor living skills (tent set-up, compass and map use, etc). Campers will range in age from kindergarten through sixth grade and will have varying climbing experience.

Desired Applicant Attributes: An interest in climbing is a must, but the grade you climb is far less important than your enthusiasm and dedication to the delivery of great service.

Applicants for this position should:

  • Be friendly, caring, and kind.
  • Expect to spend most of the day on their feet, actively engaged with the campers.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Enjoy working with children under 12 years old – experience working with this age-group preferred.
  • Plan to have FUN! Summer Camp is a place for fun, making friends, and trying new things. We expect our Instructors to foster a fun and positive atmosphere.

Position Details: Instructors will work from June 20-Aug 31, Monday through Friday (we close for July 4th). Camp hours are 8:30am-3:00pm – Instructors should expect to work at least a half-hour on either end of these hours, sometimes more. Applicants should be available for the entire summer season.

Position: Climbing Instructor – Hybrid and Outdoor Summer Camps 2018

Position Description: Climbing Instructors work together with the Camp Director, Youth Team Coaches, and our experienced Salt Pump guides to plan and implement climbing adventures for their campers. Our hybrid Inside-Out Camp features three days of indoor climbing in our facility and two days outdoors at crags in Maine and New Hampshire. Our Outdoor Camps are week-long, overnight camps that will be held in the White Mountains near Conway, NH and at Rumney climbing area in New Hampshire. During camp, Instructors will facilitate climbing, teach technical climbing skills, and educate campers on outdoor living skills. Campers will range in age from ten to seventeen years old.

Desired Applicant Attributes: We are seeking highly qualified instructors/guides to facilitate our outdoor and hybrid climbing programs.

Applicants for this position should:

  • Have experience guiding/leading trips outdoors – current SPI or higher AMGA certification preferred.
  • Be able to comfortably lead traditional multi-pitch climbs up to grade 5.9 and lead sport up to 5.11.
  • Be a proficient belayer and lead belayer.
  • Have experience camping in a front-country setting (car camping). Instructors are expected to camp from Monday-Friday with campers during week-long, outdoor camps.
  • Expect to take part in and delegate camp chores in a timely manner.
  • Have some top-notch camp cooking skills – know how to use a Coleman stove.
  • Have the skills and patience to keep themselves and others safe and happy in inclement weather while camping – layering systems, self-care, rainy day games, positive attitude, etc.
  • Expect to spend most of the day on their feet, actively engaged with the campers.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Enjoy working with children ages 10-17 in an outdoor setting.
  • Place a high value on risk management and have the skills to implement risk management in a variety of settings.
  • Hold a current CPR and BLS certification. WFR preferred.
  • Plan to have FUN! Summer Camp is a place for fun, making friends, and trying new things. We expect our Instructors to foster a fun and positive atmosphere.

Position Details: Instructors will work from July 9-Aug 31, Monday through Friday. Camp hours depend on the program – more information on these camps can be found here. Applicants should be available for the entire summer season, including a mandatory staff training session in June.
