Salt Pump Scarborough

10 minutes from Portland, 10 minutes from the beach, and less than two hours from some of New England’s finest climbing destinations including Pawtuckaway, Cathedral & Whitehorse, and Shagg Crag.
Position Description: Our desk team are key team members that are the face of the organization and the welcoming energy that helps make Salt Pump the comfortable environment we always endeavor to be. Duties include being responsible for risk management, excellent customer service, retail sales and stocking, teaching Intro to Climbing Classes, and more.
Applicants for this position should:

- Possess good verbal communication skills.

- Have experience with customer service - POS system experience preferred.
- Have an understanding of and passion for rock climbing.

- Understand the risks involved with rock climbing.
- Be able to pass a top-rope test in our facility.
- Be prepared to engage our customers and members in an upbeat, outgoing, and positive manner in order to provide everyone with an extraordinary experience.
Position Details: This is a part-time position. Pay and pay increases are based on a combination of performance and length of employment. Applicants should expect to work weekends and some evenings. Desk and Program Staff will have opportunities to instruct with our Youth Programs and Adult Programs.
Pay starts at $15/hr. Working at least one regular shift per week qualifies you for a free membership. Staff get access to pro-deals, programming and other fun opportunities.

Position: Event Staff
Position Description: Event staff work together with the Event Coordinator to provide an unforgettable, fun, and exciting experience for climbers at Salt Pump events . Events are often birthday parties, but will also include Scout groups, school groups, team-builders, and other private events.
Desired Applicant Attributes: An interest in climbing is a must, but the grade you climb is far less important than your enthusiasm and dedication to the delivery of great service.

Position Details: This position is part-time. Open events will be posted weekly by the Event Coordinator - Event Staff will select shifts they can work and communicate with the Event Coordinator. Event staff are asked to work a minimum of two Events per month - a typical shift is 2.5 hours and are mostly on the weekend - though can be on a weekday or evening.

Position Description:
Salt Pump Climbing is seeking individuals who are motivated and passionate about introducing the world of climbing to our After School youth program participants.
Our Instructors will work with our Youth Programs Director and other instructors to help foster a fun and safe environment in which our young climbers can learn more about the world of climbing. Our Instructors will help to grow their passion for this sport, expand their knowledge and skill set, and most importantly have FUN.
We provide shadowing and curriculum for all instructors as a part of the onboarding and training process. This is a part-time position with shifts in the afternoons and evenings Monday through Friday.

Position Description: Climbing Instructors work together with the Camp Director to provide a caring and supportive environment for their campers. During a day at camp, Instructors will facilitate climbing, crafts, games, and other activities. Instructors will also teach campers technical skills (including belaying, rappelling, and mock-leading) and outdoor living skills (tent set-up, compass and map use, etc). Campers will range in age from ages 5 through 14 and will have varying climbing experience.
Desired Applicant Attributes: An interest in climbing is a must, but skill level is far less important than your enthusiasm and dedication to the delivery of great service.
Applicants for this position should:
- Be friendly, caring, and kind.
- Expect to spend most of the day on their feet, actively engaged with the campers.
- Are comfortable working at a tech free camp.
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
- Enjoy working with children under 14 years old – experience working with this age-group is preferred.
- Plan to have FUN! Summer Camp is a place for fun, making friends, and trying new things. We expect our Instructors to foster a fun and positive atmosphere.
Position Details: Instructors should be available from June 16 - August 23, Monday through Friday. Camp hours are 8:30am-3:00pm; Instructors should expect to work at least a half-hour on either end of these hours, sometimes more. Priority given to applicants who are available for the entire summer season. Hourly rate starting at $16 with an end of summer bonus likely.

Position Description: Instructors work together with the Camp Director to plan and implement adventures for their campers. Our hybrid camps feature indoor and outdoor activities during day camp. Our Outdoor Camps are week-long, overnight camps that will be held in the White Mountains in New Hampshire and at Rumney climbing area. During camp, Instructors will facilitate climbing, teach technical climbing skills, additional skills elements could include canoeing and cycling and educate campers on outdoor living skills. Campers will range in age from eight to seventeen years old.
Desired Applicant Attributes: We are seeking highly qualified instructors/guides to facilitate our outdoor and hybrid climbing programs.
Applicants for this position should:
- Have experience guiding/leading trips outdoors. SPI preferred but not necessary.
- Be a proficient belayer and lead belayer.
- Have experience camping in a front-country setting (car camping).
- Instructors are expected to camp from Monday-Friday with campers during week-long, outdoor camps.
- Expect to take part in and delegate camp chores in a timely manner.
- Have the skills and patience to keep themselves and others safe and happy in inclement weather while camping – layering systems, self-care, rainy day games, positive attitude, etc.
- Expect to spend most of the day on their feet, actively engaged with the campers.
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
- Enjoy working with children ages 8 -17 in an outdoor setting.
- Are comfortable working at a tech free camp.
- Place a high value on risk management and have the skills to implement risk management in a variety of settings.
- Hold a current CPR and BLS certification. WFR preferred.
- Plan to have FUN! Summer Camp is a place for fun, making friends, and trying new things. We expect our Instructors to foster a fun and positive atmosphere.
Position Details: Instructors should be available to work from June 16 - August 23. Camp hours and days depend on the program – more information on these camps can be found here. Priority given to applicants who are available for the entire summer season (through August 23). Hourly rate for days at Salt Pump - starting at $17 an hour, pay commensurate with experience. Day rate for days outside of the facility.
