CLIMBING NOW AN OLYMPIC SPORT: SALT PUMP LEADING THE WAY

Climbing will newly be part of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Salt Pump Climbing Co., which opened its doors in summer 2015 with the goal of being the leading center for climbing, including training and coaching, welcomed this development by announcing the creation of Team Salt Pump, their competitive youth climbing team.

Team Salt Pump will begin training in September 2016 and travel to competitions throughout the region and nationally. The team will be coached by Matty Zane. A USA Climbing certified coach with a bachelors degree from Unity College, Zane previously coached national-level competitors at Rockspot Climbing in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Climbers and parents are invited to two open house events on August 24th and September 6th to tour the facility and meet the staff and learn more about the team. Tryouts for the team will take place on August 30th and September 8th.

“We’re looking forward to raising the first Olympic climbers here in Maine.” says general manager and partner Taki Miyamoto. “Success in climbing is not linked to gender. Determination counts as much or more than strength. We hope to attract and build a team that is fun loving and committed to excellence. It allows boys and girls of a wide age range to practice together and bond as one team in a setting that’s completely different from school.”
